Some 300 Canadian Army soldiers are participating in a U.S.-led military exercise carried out in the U. S. state of Indiana, according to a news release issued by Canadian Minister of National Defense Rob Nicholson Thursday.

With the drill, entitled "Exercise WARFIGHTER," the Canadian soldiers are working alongside about 3,000 U.S. troops from the Army Regular and Reserve Forces, as well as the Army and Air National Guard, said the news release.

The U.S.-led military exercise, which started Jan. 26 and will last till Feb. 13, is a training event designed to test troops' readiness, responsiveness and skills in a variety of scenarios that simulate a full-scale military operation.

"In today's complex security environment, it is essential for the Canadian Armed Forces to be ready to meet an array of challenges. This joint Canadian Army-U.S. training exercise strengthens our partnership with our American allies and ensures that our soldiers are prepared to deploy with our partners and allies around the world," said Nicholson in the news release.
