Tokyo stocks fall on Fed rate hike view

Tokyo stocks fell 1.06 percent Thursday as the U.S. Federal Reserve's statement implies an upcoming interest rate hike is still possible.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 189.51 points, from Wednesday at 17,606.22.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 16.34 points, or 1.14 percent, lower at 1,413.58.

Major decliners included machinery, shipping and real estate issues.

The turnover was 2,482.7 billion yen (about 21.06 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
