French consumer confidence about the country's economic performance in January was stable from a month earlier, government figures showed on Wednesday.
The consumer confidence index remained unchanged at 90 points over the period while households' sentiment to their future personal financial situation stood at minus 15, two points down from December, French statistics institute said.
Consumers also showed more pessimism over saving capacity in the coming months as saving opportunities indicator was down by three points compared to December data, it added.
As to unemployment rate, fewer people predicted for an increase of unemployment in the future, with the index has fallen by 4 points in January to 63. But "it remains distinctly above its long-term average".
France, one of Europe's main powerhouses, is currently struggling to narrow its widening budget deficit and boost economic growth.
It aims at a 1 percent growth this year, and also pledged to narrow this year's budget gap to 4.1 percent of its GDP, and reach the EU deficit safe line by 2017 with an estimated 2.8 percent, by cutting public spending. Enditem
