Cambodia's Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) announced Wednesday that 70 percent or 10,683 of the leaders and senior officials had already declared their assets for the third time.

The asset declaration is required once in every two years. The first and second declarations were made in 2011 and 2013, respectively.

Leaders and senior officials, who are obligated to declare their assets, include the members of the senate, the national assembly, the government and the provincial, municipal, district and commune councils.

Besides, civil servants, whose positions range from director of a department upwards, and military and police officers, whose ranks stem from a colonel upwards, as well as judges, prosecutors, notaries and clerks will also be required to unveil their assets.

The ACU was launched in 2010. Since then, it has investigated a number of corruption cases and brought many corrupt officials to court for legal punishment.

According to the law, a corrupt official, if found guilty, will be jailed up to 15 years. Endi
