Bahrain postpones trial of opposition leader

Xinhua, January 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

Bahrain's upper criminal court decided Wednesday to postpone the trial of Ali Salman, opposition leader and general secretary of Al Wefaq Society, until Feb. 25, said the Public Prosecution.

The Public Prosecution confirmed that the trial would be held in public and media representatives are allowed to attend the hearing. Ali Salman was arrested last month and remains in custody charged with inciting violence.

Al Wefaq has been calling for Salman's release as his arrest drew riots and vandalism in several areas of Bahrain.

In addition, the Society denied the charges, while public prosecution stressed they were based upon his public speeches.

Salman was arrested on Dec. 28 and remains in custody. Endit
