Nikkei rises 1.44 pct by break on weaker yen

Tokyo stocks rose 1.44 percent by the break of Tuesday on the yen's weaker.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 250.90 points, from Monday to 17,719.42.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 17.22 points, or 1.23 percent, at 1, 419.30.

Major gainers included precision instrument, steel and iron, and insurance issues. Endi
