Makarova eliminates Halep to reach Australian Open semifinal

Ekaterina Makarova beat third-seeded Simona Halep 6-4, 6-0 in the quarterfinals at the Australian Open on Tuesday.

It only took Makarova 68 minutes to beat Halep in the match which was played under sunny skies at the Melbourne Park. The Russian advanced to a semifinal against either Maria Sharapova or Eugenie Bouchard.

The 26-year-old Makarova has had her best Grand Slam results at the Melbourne Park. Last year, she lost to eventual champion Li Na in the fourth round. Endi
