A conference was held here Monday by Vietnam, the United States Embassy in Vietnam and the U.S.-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Speaking at the conference, Ha Kim Ngoc, Vietnamese deputy minister of foreign affairs, said four Vietnam-U.S. joint statements have affirmed two countries' common view over multi- faceted and constructive relations based on respect, parity and mutual benefits.

Commitments by Vietnamese and U.S. sides to concluding Trans- Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations in 2015 also present determination to build deeper and more stable relations, added Ngoc.

The U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius, for his part, said at the meeting that the conference is a chance for two sides to discuss ways to boost comprehensive partnership and develop a vision for the next 20 years.

During the one-day conference, participants discussed challenges and opportunities of Vietnam-U.S. relations in the next 20 years, ways to further boost relations in the coming time, reported Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA on Monday. Endi
