BiH adpots decision to destroy excess weapons

The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on Thursday adopted a decision on destruction of excess weapons, ammunition and explosive ordnance.

The Presidency obliged the Defense Ministry to destroy all defective ammunition in several locations, according to Fena, the news agency of the Federation of BiH.

It reached a decision to transfer some weapons of the military to the Directorate for BiH Coordination of Police Bodies the Correctional Institute Banja Luka, it reported.

Due to the 1990s war, BiH has a large stock of excess weapons and ammunition.

In the past seven to ten years, some 12,000 tons of surplus weapons were destroyed in BiH together with some 150,000 pieces of arms. There are still around 16,000 tons of landmines and explosive ordnance as well as 40,000 pieces of various weapons. Enditem
