Germany's benchmark DAX touches new record high

The benchmark DAX index at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Thursday touched a new high during trading and closed up by 1.32 percent at 10435.62 points.

The European Central Bank (ECB) opened its floodgates with multi-billion dollar bond purchase programme even further and did not disappoint the high expectations of the markets.

The money injected into the market was supposed to stimulate a stronger bank lending to companies and consumers, which would boost the economy.

The rally left 22 among the 30 DAX member shares rise, with the chemical group LANXESS AG taking the lead with an increase of 3.98 percent. Continental AG advanced by 3.54 percent. BMW AG St added 3.29 percent. Daimler AG climbed by 3.14 percent and Commerzbank AG went up by 2.74 percent.

Fresenius Medical Care AG & Co. fell the most by 1.09 percent. Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA, a health care company, slipped by 1.03 percent. Merck KGaA,Deutsche Lufthansa AG and Bayer AG went down by 0.27 percent, 0.26 percent and 0.08 percent respectively. Enditem
