Latvia urges Albania to achieve results in EU-set priorities

Xinhua, January 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkevics said on Wednesday Albania should first achieve results in the EU-set five priorities before launching its membership negotiation process.

Rinkevics, whose country holds the current presidency of the European Union (EU), introduced the EU enlargement policy for the next six months before the European Parliament (EP) Foreign Affairs committee, according to Albanian Telegraphic Agency.

Rinkevics stressed that the enlargement policy was a priority for the Latvian presidency.

"The granting of candidate status to Albania last year was deserved and recognition of the work carried out along its path to the EU. We welcome this progress, but there are more challenges to face that lay ahead before we can start negotiations," Rinkevics said. Endite
