Vietnam considers adaption to climate change and rising sea level a vital task during its sustainable development, said Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung here on Wednesday.
Dung made the remarks while meeting with Rajendra Pachauri, head of the United Nations (UN)' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in Vietnam's capital Hanoi on Wednesday during the latter's working visit to Vietnam.
Dung said Vietnam pays much attention to climate change as the country is forecast to be among nations hardest hit by climate change and rising sea level, adding that Vietnam will try its best to join international community's efforts to respond to these challenges.
The country hopes to receive continued support of the UN, international donors and scientists in sharing research results of climate change, providing recommendations as well as sponsoring climate change adaption projects, said Dung.
Pachauri, for his part, cited research results as saying at the meeting that under the current green house effect emission levels, without any action, the world's sea level is forecast to rise continuously.
The consequences will be very hard to many countries, including Vietnam, said the UN official.
The panel pledges to work together with Vietnam in response to climate change and weather extremes which are caused by climate change, Vietnamese government's website quoted Pachauri as saying on Wednesday. Endi
