1st LD: Cameroon says it freed German hostage taken by Boko Haram

Xinhua, January 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

A German hostage kidnapped by Nigerian Islamist group Boko Haram was freed Tuesday night during a special operation by Cameroonian army in collaboration with forces of other countries, an official source said Wednesday.

The Cameroonian government affirmed that Nietzsche Herbet Robert had been handed over, safe and sound, to German diplomatic officials in Cameroon.

Following his liberation, Nietzsche Robert was taken to Cameroon's northern town of Maroua, the source said, adding that he would be flown to the capital Yaounde later in the day aboard a special flight.

The kidnap of the hostage was never made public, hence the surprise of many people when his liberation was announced. Endi
