Turkey calls on West to stop insulting Islamic world and Islam

Xinhua, January 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged Western countries to take necessary actions to stop insulting Islamic values at the international conference of the Muslim countries here on Wednesday.

"To speak Islamic geography and Islam after the Paris attack is a terrorist act as much as massacring people with guns," said Erdogan at the 10th session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States.

After the Paris attack to the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo which left 12 dead, protests against Muslims have been organized in several European Union (EU) countries.

Referring to these anti-Islam protests, Erdogan pointed out that to use the concept of terror together with Islam and terrorist with Muslim is the greatest insult and attack to the religion of Islam.

Erdogan urged EU countries to stop all the attacks targeting to insult Islam and Muslim and appealed all the Muslim countries to stand united against the western countries.

He blamed international community, mainly EU, from being insensitive to the terrorist attacks and massacres in the Islam geography like, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Egypt and Libya.

"Unless you raise your voice equally against all the terrorist attacks in the world, no country, no city would be safe," he added.

In the mean time, he highlighted the responsibility of OIC as the sole representative mechanism of the whole Muslim world in providing an effective platform for dialogue.

No one will grant Muslim the desired right of representation in the international institutions like United Nations, he said, adding "We have to fight for our rights, ourselves."

The three-day conference of IOC's Parliamentarian Union mainly focuses on the regional developments, terrorism and the Western anti-Prophet press campaigns. Endit
