Cameroon ties with Mali, Cote d'Ivoire draws Guinea at African Cup

Xinhua, January 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

Cameroon tied with Mali 1-1 on Tuesday in the African Cup Group D where Cote d'Ivoire and Guinea also drew 1-1.

Cup favorites Cameroon, who conceded only one goal in qualifying, needed a late goal to earn a point in the second match of Group D on Tuesday.

Ambroise Oyongo materialized a long pass from Raoul Loe in the 84th minute to level the score after Sambou Yatabare had given Mali the lead in the 71st.

Although forward Edgar Salli did not score, he attracted much attention in the 57th minute when he bounced the ball several times on his head to evade defenders but was eventually brought down just outside the box.

In the other match, Mohamed Yattara scored for Guinea in the 36th minute to put his team ahead.

Things turned worse for Cote d'Ivoire in the 57th minute as Gervinho was shown a straight red card, leaving the Cup favorites struggling with 10 men.

Second-half substitute Seydou Doumbia saved Cote d'Ivoire's day by scoring in front of goal in the 72nd after a pass from Wilfried Bony.

On Saturday, Cote d'Ivoire will take on Mali and Cameroon will face Guinea. Endi
