China's benchmark Shanghai Composite Index on the Shanghai Stock Exchange closed at 3,116.35 points Monday, down 7.7 percent.

Total turnover: 409.89 billion yuan (66.98 billion U.S. dollars) .

BEIJING -- The Shenzhen Component Index on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange closed at 10,770.93 points Monday, down 6.61 percent.

Total turnover: 291.45 billion yuan (47.62 billion U.S. dollars) .

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished higher on Monday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 7.02 points, or 0.21 percent, to close at 3,307.70.

A total of 1.17 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 897.2 million Singapore dollars (679.7 million U.S. dollars).

SEOUL -- Seoul shares opened higher on Monday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 14.49 points, or 0.77 percent, to 1,902.62 at the close. Trading volume stood at 278.18 million shares worth 3.5 trillion won (3.25 billion U.S. dollars).

HONG KONG -- Taiwan's share prices closed up 0.39 percent Monday with the weighted index up 35.77 points at 9,174.06, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 89.07 billion new Taiwan dollars (2.82 billion U.S. dollars) during the trading session.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks rose 0.89 percent Monday as market sentiment was lifted by the gains on Wall Street.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 150.13 points, from Friday at 17,014.29.

The turnover was 1,927.8 billion yen (about 16.47 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market lost early gains but still registered growth at the close of trade on Monday.

The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was up 9.9 points, or 0.19 percent, at 5,309.1 points, while the broader All Ordinaries index rose 10.2 points, or 0.19 percent, to 5,289.1 points.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished on Monday down 0.73 percent against the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 10.30 points to 1,402.17. A total of 11,690 shares worth about 53 million Lao kip (about 6,000 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks moved down 365.03 points, or 1.51 percent, to close on Monday at 23,738.49 points.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 23,590.05 and 24, 049.55. Turnover totaled 127.90 billion HK dollars (about 16.50 billion U.S. dollars).

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 571.51 points on Monday, down 3.3 points, or 0.57 percent, against last Friday's closing session.

About 88.382 million shares worth 1.499 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (69.88 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 74 stocks went up, 130 stocks fell down, while 104 stocks remained unchanged.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.07 percent lower on Monday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 5.56 points to 7,485.32. The all-share index went up by 8.36 points, or 0.19 percent, to 4,384.61.

Trading volume reached 2.34 billion shares worth 8.06 billion pesos (179.78 million U.S. dollars).

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 85.26 points on Monday, down 0.1 points, or 0.11 percent, against the previous closing session.

A total of 41.269 million shares worth 630.542 billion Vietnamese dong (29.88 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Monday, a decrease of 29.66 percent in volume and 13.2 percent in value against the previous closing session.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 3.71 points, or 0. 07 percent, to a level of 5,152.09 on Monday.

Some 228,222 transactions were booked, involving 6.36 billion shares worth 5.81 trillion rupiah (about 460.28 million U.S. dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Monday moved up 17.63 points, or 1.16 percent to close at 1,535.37 points.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Monday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,753.31, up 9. 74 points or 0.56 percent, and the Emas was at 12,072.74, up 70.93 points or 0.59 percent.
