Kenya's lawn tennis office resigns over unexplained expenditure

Xinhua, January 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

The entire Kenya Lawn Tennis Association (KLTA) office resigned late on Saturday after the executive committee members failed to reconcile their accounts during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Nairobi.

An interim committee, composed of three former chairmen and five other members, was chosen to run the affairs of the association until a new office is put in place.

"Following the impasse, we have decided to step aside until a conclusive AGM is called so that the accounts can be cleaned," KLTA chairperson Paurvi Rawal told members of the council.

Former KLTA chairman James Kenani took over as interim chairman and was mandated to steer the association for a period of 90 days before convening another AGM.

The bone of contention was the expenditure amounting to over 27,000 U.S. dollars that has not been accounted for since 2011 owing to the lack of supporting documents which could not allow the meeting to proceed.

The interim committee will look into the accounts of the association since 2011 and also run the day to day activities of the association including tennis tournaments that have been approved after which it will convene a meeting within 90 days. Endi
