Arab interior ministers' meeting chance for global anti-terror mechanism: AL official

Xinhua, January 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Arab interior ministers' meeting to be held in Algeria this March will be a chance to establish an international mechanism to fight terrorism, an Arab League (AL) official said on Sunday.

Mohamed Benali Kommane, secretary general of the Arab Interior Ministers Council (CMAI) made the remarks after his meeting with Algerian Interior Minister Tayeb Belaiz here in Algiers.

Kommane said Arab countries are the first victims of terrorism, and they are also the first to denounce the scourge and to raise awareness of its danger.

He also accused many Western countries of offering shelters to extremists under "the pretext of freedom of thought."

The AL official urged the international community to take "responsibility" in the fight against terrorism, which affected all countries and in all areas, including tourism and economy. Endit
