Greek police detains 4 suspects during investigation for links to Belgium's jihadist cell: media

Xinhua, January 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Greek police has detained four suspects during an ongoing investigation for links to the jihadist cell which was planning a terrorist attack in Belgium this week, Greek media reported on Saturday.

One of the suspects looks like the cell's "mastermind" Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the 27-year-old Belgian of Moroccan origin who is believed that he funded the jihadists who were killed during the counter-terror raid in Verviers on Thursday evening, Greek news portal in.gr wrote, citing police sources.

Photos, fingerprints and data from telephone communications of the suspects will be forwarded to Belgian authorities, the report said.

According to Belgian media reports Abdelhamid Abaaoud was traced to Greece or Turkey through phone calls he made a few weeks ago to a prisoner in Belgium.

Greek officials have yet not confirmed nor denied the information. Endit
