Latvia reports more than 600 mln euros current account deficit for 11 months of 2014

During the first 11 months of 2014 Latvia's current account deficit expanded by 15.1 percent from the same period a year ago to 613.45 million euros, the Bank of Latvia reported on Friday.

In November 2014, Latvia's current account ran a deficit of 37.03 million euros in contrast to a 7.52 million euros deficit in November 2013 and an 84.47 million euros surplus in October 2014.

The deficit of goods in November 2014 increased by 17.21 million euros year-on-year to 172.49 million euros, and the surplus of services contracted by 26.95 million euros to 123.86 million euros.

The surplus of primary income stood at 9.69 million euros in November 2014, and the surplus of secondary income fell by 16.98 million euros to 1.9 million euros, the Latvian central bank said.

The capital account showed a surplus of 7.61 million euros, and the financial account had a surplus of 23.18 million euros.

Direct investment grew by 78.56 million euros in November 2014, and the deficit of portfolio investments was 74.89 million euros.

The balance of derivatives showed a deficit of 25.54 million euros in November 2014, and there was a 28.22 million euros surplus of other investments, while the surplus of reserve assets was equal to 16.82 million euros.
