EU, Morocco strike deal on promoting trade relations

Xinhua, January 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

The European Union (EU) and Morocco on Friday concluded negotiations on an agreement to mutually protect their trade ties.

Through this agreement, Morocco and the EU will ensure high level protection for their respective geographical indications (GIs) for food products. The agreement is also aimed at promoting and fostering trade relations in agricultural products and foodstuffs produced in Morocco and the EU.

EU Agriculture and Rural Development Commissioner Phil Hogan praised this agreement as one that gives relations between the EU and Morocco a new impetus.

"Cooperation in the field of geographical indications is part of our mutual commitment for a quality agriculture that preserves local products," said Hogan. Endit
