New missile destroyer commissioned to China's Navy

A new guided missile destroyer was officially commissioned to the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) on Friday at Zhoushan Port in Zhejiang Province.

The missile destroyer, called "Huanggang", was named after a city in central China's Hubei Province and had the hull number 577.

Th destroyer is 140 meters long and 16 meters wide. It has a full displacement of more than 4,000 tonnes.

The ship is one of the new generation of battle warships. It has long-range detection and air-defense capabilities. PLAN sources say it can attack surface ships and submarines independently or provide cooperative combat to other naval forces. Endi
