Australia's unemployment rate falls to 6.1 pct in December

Australia's unemployment rate has fallen to 6.1 percent in December, 2014, with 37,400 mostly full- time jobs added, according official figures released on Thursday.

Economists had predicted unemployment rate to remain at 6.3 percent, but the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) report showed the rate fell to 6.1 percent in December from 6.2 percent in November.

The ABS said there was a rise of 41,600 full-time jobs compared to a drop of 4100 part-time jobs.

The participation rate, which measures the proportion of people aged over 15 in work or looking for it, rose from 64.7 to 64.8 percent. Endi
