Bangladeshi opposition calls strike for Thursday protesting gun attack on leader

Xinhua, January 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Bangladesh ex-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's 20-party alliance has called a dawn-to-dusk countrywide strike for Thursday protesting the gun attack on a leader.

Khaleda's Bangladesh Nationalist Party in a statement made the announcement.

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's adviser Reaz Rahman, also a former state minister for foreign affairs, came under the attack while returning after meeting Khaleda Zia who remains confined for the past 11 days at her office.

Miscreants opened fire on Rahman on Tuesday night, leaving him seriously injured.

Khaleda's 20-party alliance is observing a non-stop blockade across the country since Jan. 5 demanding fresh elections under a non-party caretaker government system. Endi
