EU current account surplus stable in Q3 2014

The European Union (EU) seasonally adjusted external current account recorded a surplus of 15.0 billion euros (about 17.7 billion U.S. dollars) in the third quarter of 2014, unchanged from the previous quarter of 2014 and down from a surplus of 16.7 billion euros in the third quarter of 2013, EU statistical office Eurostat said on Tuesday.
In the third quarter of 2014 compared with the second quarter of 2014, the deficits of the goods account decreased from 9.8 billion euros to 8.2 billion euros. The surplus of the services account fell from 38.6 billion euros to 37.9 billion euros.
As concerns the total current account balances of the EU member states, 19 recorded surpluses, seven deficits and two were in balance in the third quarter of 2014.
The highest surpluses were observed in Germany with 54.0 billion euros, the Netherlands with 14.7 billion euros, Italy with 10.4 billion euros, Sweden with 6.7billion euros and Denmark with 5.6 billion euros. (1 euro = 1.18 U.S. dollars) Endit
