Austria to draw up measures to combat terrorism

Xinhua, January 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Austrian Minister of Interior Johanna Mikl-Leitner announced on Monday her country will draw up security measures to combat terrorism after Paris shooting and hostage standoff.

The minister, who attended a EU meeting on the fighting against terrorism in Paris Sunday, said the package of measures that would form a "security offensive" are being drawn up.

The measures will include an expansion of the armed forces through more heavy vehicles and larger helicopters to improve mobility.

The Minister added the costs for the measures would amount to hundreds of millions of euros.

She also confirmed later that Austria is currently at "high alert" over potential attacks, with increased numbers of police already patrolling public places. Endit
