Senegal president visits Algeria to boost bilateral cooperation

Xinhua, January 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Senegalese President Macky Sall started Monday a four-day visit to Algeria to boost bilateral partnership and discussing the situation in the African Sahel.

Macky Sall was welcomed at the Algiers airport by the upper parliament house speaker Abdelkader Bensalah, in addition to Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal and top government officials.

The President's Office noted in a statement that Algeria and Senegal are bound by "deep neighborly cooperative relations."

The statement said talks between Bouteflika and his Senegalese guest "will give opportunity for the two officials to exchange views on issues of common concern in the Islamic world, the African continent, particularly the NEPAD initiative, as well as the situation in the Sahel and sub-Sahara regions, including Algeria's peace efforts in Mali and Libya."

The two heads of State "will discuss ways to deepen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the economic sector, to provide real growth opportunities confirmed through the successful participation of Algerian companies in the International Dakar Fair held in December last year."

In addition, the two officials will deliberate on the fight against terrorism and organized crime in the Sahel region. Endit
