1st LD Writethru: Afghan president nominates cabinet ministers

Xinhua, January 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani introduced the long-awaited list of minister-designates to Wolesi Jirga, or the lower house of parliament, for approval on Monday, the state-owned national television reported.

The list came more than 100 days after the presidential inauguration and all the ministries have been running by acting ministers.

After taking oath as the new president on Sept. 29, President Ghani, in his maiden speech, promised to form a cabinet within 45 days. But the announcement of cabinet members had been delayed three times.

According to a presidential decree, the acting ministers would continue their duties until the minister-designates get approval from the parliament.

Wolesi Jirga is expected to approve the minister-nominees within days. Endi
