Brazil's Vasco da Gama are considering a bid for former Argentina international midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme, according to media reports on Sunday.

The 36-year-old is a free agent after ending a six-month spell with Argentinos Juniors last month.

According to ESPN Brasil, Vasco have joined Sport Recife, Colo-Colo, Montreal Impact and Boca Juniors in the battle to sign Riquelme.

The former Barcelona and Villarreal playmaker is said to have requested a monthly salary of about 140,000 US dollars.

Riquelme was capped 51 times and scored 17 goals in an international career that spanned 1997 to 2008. Endi
