Xinhua, January 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

A leading Insurance Company in Ghana, GLICO, has presented a 300,000 cedis (some 93,750 U.S. dollars) worth of insurance package to the Black Stars to aid the team's preparations ahead of the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2015) tournament.

The insurance package will cover both the players and the technical team before, during and after the tournament which begins on January 17 and ends on February 8 in Equatorial Guinea.

Presenting the donation to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the Managing Director of GLICO, Edward Fokuo Kyei, said sports is one of the core Corporate Social Responsibility of the company because it believes sports defines and unifies the nation.

He said in that regard, GLICO would always endeavor to ensure the national teams are well motivated to achieve their best for the nation.

"Today, we are here to continue with our tradition to cushion our national team to go and play their hearts out at the AFCON 2015," he noted.

The president of the GFA, who received the package, said GLICO is no stranger to the association, praising the insurance company for supporting the Black Stars and other national teams over the years.

"I know this package will go a long way to motivating the players because they will be well aware that in case of unlikely events, GLICO is there for us," he said.

In addition to the package, GLICO also donated an amount of 10,000 cedis (3,125 dollars) to the Stars as they prepare for the tournament.

The insurance company is also willing to pay 1,000 cedis (312 dollars) for every winning goal in the group stages, 1,200 cedis (375 dollars) in the quarter and semifinals and 1,500 cedis (468 dollars) for the winning goal in the final grand.

Ghana will play in Group C of the 2015 AFCON alongside Senegal, South Africa and Algeria and will open their campaign against Senegal Jan 19.

The Black Stars team is currently preparing for the event in Spain where they have so far played two friendly matches.

The team will leave Spain, five days to the beginning of the completion. Endi
