Australia leads Kuwait 2-1 in Asian Cup opener half time

Xinhua, January 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Australia started well in its campaign in the AFC Asian Cup by leading Kuwait 2-1 after half time in their opener here on Friday.

Kuwait got a corner kick in eighth minute and Sultan Alenezi's low kick was met by Hussain Fadhel, who ghosted at the corner and gave Kuwait the first goal of the Asian Cup.

Fadhel got the first yellow card of the Cup in the 18th minute, but the Socceroos missed the free kick.

The yellow audiences were frozen for the unexpected shot, but the Socceroos found its pace in the 33rd minute when the 34-year-old Tim Cahill from New York Red Bulls shot after receiving the pass from Massimo Luongo.

Socceroos got many corners in the first half, but they failed to transfer their height advantage to a goal till the 44th minute. Luongo headed from the right side to the high center of the goal. Ivan Franjic made the assist. Endi
