Tokyo stocks gain in Thursday morning on positive U.S. job data

Tokyo stocks moved 1.67 percent higher in the morning session of Thursday, bolstered by the improvement in the U.S. labor market.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 282.43 points, from Wednesday to 17,167.76.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 18.69 points, or 1.37 percent, to 1, 378.49.

Major gainers included marine and air transport and pharmaceutical issues. Endi
