Fiji's national airlines Fiji Airways confirmed that one of its Boeing 737-800 bound for Auckland, New Zealand from Nadi, Fiji had to turn back due to fumes and oil smell in the cabin early Wednesday morning with people on board safe.

The airliner landed safely without incident, Fiji Airways' Managing Director and CEO Stefan Pichler told local news website Fijivillage.com, adding that medical personnel were available at the Nadi International Airport upon landing and one passenger was attended to by a doctor.

The aircraft is in the hangar and engineers are investigating what may have caused the defect, said Pichler.

He said the passengers have been accommodated and are being re- booked on the next available flight. Endi
