Cuba aims to defend its World Boxing Series (WSB) title with a 32-man team led by its Olympic champions.
Olympic gold medalists Roniel Iglesias and Robeisy Ramirez will lead Cuban team "Domadores" (Tamers) at the fifth WSB, online sports magazine "Jit" said Tuesday.
In addition to Iglesias (69kg) and Ramirez (56), the squad features Erislandy Savon (91), considered the top boxer in the last edition of the WSB, and Yosbany Veitia, now in the 52-kg division. Both went undefeated in their eight fights last season.
The team also includes two-time world champions Lazaro Alvarez (60) and Julio Cesar La Cruz (81), as well as world silver and Olympic bronze winner Yasnier Toledo (64).
Yoandrys Toirac, champion of last year's Central American and Caribbean Games, and Pan-American leader Leinier Pero, are also considered top Cuban talents.
Young boxers representing Cuba for the first time at the WSB include junior world champions Yohanys Argilagos (49), Javier Ibanez (57) and Yordan Hernandez (+91), as well as bronze medal winner at the Youth Olympic Games, Alayn Limonta (60).
This year marks the second time Cuba competes in the WSB, and its first fight is set for Jan. 16 in Havana, against Morocco. A week later, it will fight Algeria on that team's territory. Endi
