Xinhua, January 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

Three civilians, including a woman, were killed and two others wounded after Taliban fired a rocket towards a village in southern Afghanistan' s Helmand province overnight, police said on Tuesday. "A rocket fired by the Taliban insurgents struck a house in Shaiekhzai village of Naw Zad District midnight, leaving three civilians, including a woman and two men, killed and injuring two other male civilians,"the provincial police spokesman Farid Ahmad Obaid told Xinhua.

The injured were shifted to a hospital in the district in the north of provincial capital of Lashkar Gah, the source said.

The Taliban has intensified attacks over the past couple of months as the Afghan forces are taking over the responsibility for security in the country.

The Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) assumed last Thursday the full security charges from NATO-led troops after a four-year security transition.

About 10,000 civilians were killed and injured in Taliban-led insurgency and conflicts in the central Asian country in 2014, according to UN mission officials.

The officials blamed the attacks of Taliban insurgents and other armed groups for vast majority of the civilian deaths and injuries. Endi
