Tokyo shares open higher on upbeat U.S. economic data

Tokyo shares opened higher Wednesday on a better-than-expected U.S. economy growth data for the third quarter and a record high finish level of the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 193.89 points, or 1.10 percent, from Monday to 17,829.03.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 14.90 points, or 1.05 percent, to 1, 427.95.

The Japanese stocks market was closed Tuesday for a national holiday. Endi
