Police probed following property scandal

Xinhua, November 28, 2014 Adjust font size:

A police officer in east China's Zhejiang Province was put under investigation after a whistleblower claimed he owned 69 housing units, local authorities said on Thursday.

The story was revealed on Wednesday at www.cnool.net and Tianyi discussion forums that a policeman surnamed Shen in Ningbo City owned 69 properties and two ID cards.

He used his real ID card in daily life, and registered his properties with another card, said the post.

China started issuing ID cards in 1984 and the country only allows each resident to own one ID card.

The public security department of Ningbo City said a special team is investigating Shen. If he has violated laws and discipline, he will be punished.

Local police declined to disclose further details and promised to release information to the public after the investigation.
