One night two months ago, Zhang tripped over a roadside stone on his way to a bookstore. He then looked up medicine books at the store and bought bandages and medicine to cure himself. Now the wound has scabbed over and is beginning to heal. "Books are my manna. I can't stand it if I don't read even for a day." Zhang reads newspapers at libraries and bookstores near his home every day, and he comes to the Hangzhou Public Library on weekends."I have all sorts of illnesses and have no one to look after me. I sometimes am depressed and reading books and newspapers will temporarily relieve my depression. I can be happy for quite a long time if I read articles that convey 'positive energy.' "Zhang said.
