Statistics of Mainland-Taiwan Trade and Investment in January-April 2014

I. Mainland-Taiwan Trade

Mainland-Taiwan trade in January-April 2014 amounted to US$58.97 billion, down 16.7% year on year, and accounting for 4.5% of the total volume of the mainland’s external trade. The mainland’s export to Taiwan was US$12.64 billion, down 9.7% year on year, and the mainland’s import from Taiwan was US$46.33 billion, down 18.4% year on year. Taiwan is the mainland’s 7th largest trade partner and the 6th largest source of imports.

In April 2014, mainland-Taiwan trade totaled US$16.84 billion, up 9.2% month on month. The mainland’s export to Taiwan was US$3.67 billion, and import from Taiwan was US$13.17 billion, both up 9.2% month on month.

II. Investment from Taiwan

In January-April 2014, 607 Taiwan-funded projects were approved in the mainland, down 5% year on year; and actually utilized Taiwan capital was US$780 million, down 10.5% year on year.

In April 2014, 180 Taiwan-invested projects were approved in the mainland, down 6.7% month on month, and the actually utilized Taiwan capital was US$160 million, up 1.9% month on month.

By the end of April 2014, 90,625 Taiwan-invested projects were approved in the mainland, and the actually utilized Taiwan capital was US$59.92 billion, accounting for 4.2% of the total utilized investment of the mainland from overseas.
