An Ebola patient from West Africa has arrived in the German north port state city of Hamburg on Wednesday, according to German media Spiegel Online.
The staff of the World Health Organization (WHO) who is infected with Ebola will be treated in the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), said the spokesman of Hamburg Health Authority Rico Schmidt to the local media.
The special jet with the patient on board has arrived this Wednesday morning at the airport, where he was then taken over by an isolation vehicle, which is specifically designed for highly infectious patients.
This is the first time that a human infected with Ebola in West Africa is treated in Germany.
Schmidt also stressed that there was no danger for the people in Hamburg, as an infection was only possible by direct contact with a patient, for example through body fluids.
According to WHO, the patient is an epidemiologist from Senegal, who was working in Khailahun in the east of Sierra Leone.
At the end of July, the WHO asked UKE whether an infected employee can be treated there, however, the doctor died before he could be brought to Germany for treatment.
