Up to four million Chinese talents have emigrated to developed countries, mainly the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and Singapore, a bluebook of global talents has found.

The Annual Report on Overseas Chinese Professionals 2014, jointly launched by the Center for China and Globalization and the Social Sciences Academic Press, said these emigrants are people with comparably higher education and skill levels, who have strong financial situations and know their cultural heritage well.

Statistics show that 2.2 million Chinese people have obtained U.S. citizenship as of 2013, the second largest group of immigrants in the United States.

The bluebook also found up to 70 percent of overseas Chinese work in companies, and 19 percent in educational institutes. Apart from computer engineering, electronic information and traditional employment for Chinese people abroad, biological engineering, pharmaceuticals and new energy are among the emerging sectors that are accommodating more Chinese professionals.

The rise of overseas Chinese professionals amounts to a talent pool for China. These talented individuals are increasingly making investments in China or are coming to work in China. According to the report, 55.6 percent of overseas Chinese believe that "intellectual service" is the best way to serve the country.
