At least one person was killed and six others injured when an under-construction building collapsed in Mumbai Saturday, a senior police officer said.
Several others are feared trapped inside the debris of the building which collapsed in posh Colaba area of India's financial capital, he said, adding that the death toll could go up later in the day.
Rescuers have swung into action to bring out those feared trapped under the debris of the building.
A probe has been ordered into the incident, the officer added.
Building collapses are common in India, mainly because of poor construction to meet the growing needs of affordable housing for the country's middle-class.
This is the latest in the series of building collapses in Mumbai.
In March, seven people died and several others were injured after a seven-storey residential building collapsed in Mumbai's Santacruz area.
Last year, some 74 people were killed when another building collapsed like a pack of cards in Mumbai. Endite
