JD.com, an online direct sales company, hosted its annual sales promotion June 17-20. June 18 was one of the busiest days for taking orders and shipping goods.

On Wednesday, Liu joined the delivery process in Beijing, where the headquarters of the company are located, riding an electric tricycle with goods to the communities where the users live. The Beijing Youth Daily reported that the users were really "surprised" to see him.

JD.com went public in an initial offering on the Nasdaq Stock Market in May and raised US$1.78 billion, making Liu a billionaire.

The company built its own logistics in 2007 and now has more than 20,000 deliverymen in nearly 500 cities in China -- twice the amount than in 2013.

According to an insider of the company, the annual sales promotion poses challenges for JD.com's operation and logistics every year. The company has updated and organized its storage, delivery and customer services over the past few months.
