Zhejiang University vice president dies in car accident

The vice president of Zhejiang University, Wu Ping, 57, was killed in an automobile accident in the city of Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on Thursday.

Around 6 a.m., Wu was driving his Audi along Sandun expressway when a vehicle carrying heavy wooden logs overturned. The logs ended up crushing the Audi, along with Wu. The 57-year-old died at the scene.
Wu Ping earned his bachelor, master and doctorate degrees at Zhejinag University and specialized in soil geochemistry. Among his remarkable achievements is Wu's contribution to the study of rice and biotechnology. Before his death, Wu's research focused on the genetics of plant nutrition and molecular biology.
