A human heart traveled four hours by air from Guilin, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to Beijing to be transplanted to a 12-year-old boy suffering from heart failure on Friday, Beijing News reports.

The heart was removed from the 21-year-old donor, Ye Jin, who was declared brain-dead from a brain tumor at 5pm on Friday, and then transported to Beijing on a China Southern Airlines flight. It was then immediately airlifted by helicopter to Anzhen Hospital in downtown Bejiing where the boy was waiting.

The heart arrived at the hospital at 9pm and was successfully transplanted to the patient after a three-hour long operation.

The boy, surnamed Bao, is currently in a stable condition and in the ICU.

Doctors say the heart will be able to sustain Bao for up to 15 years if it functions well.
