UN chief to attend global development meeting in Mexico City

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will travel to Mexico City on Monday to attend the First High-level Meeting of Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric announced here Thursday.
Established during the Fourth High Level Forum (HLF4) in Busan, South Korea, to ensure that development co-operation has the maximum possible impact on development results, the Global Partnership brings together a wide range of countries and organizations to foster engagement, communication and knowledge- sharing.
The secretary-general will speak at the opening session of the two-day event on Tuesday, Dujarric said at a daily news briefing here.
Ban will also hold bilateral meetings with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, Mexican Foreign Minister Meade Kuribrena, as well as with other leaders and senior officials attending the upcoming summit, the spokesman said.
The two-day meeting includes five plenary sessions and 28 focus sessions on a range of critical themes for development.
The UN chief will return to New York on April 15, Dujarric said.
