On Jan. 15, 2009, an Airbus A320 aircraft of US Airways, with 155 people on board, struck a flock of Canada Geese during its initial ascent from LaGuardia Airport in New York City, damaging both engines. The pilot in command, 57-year-old Sullenberger, successfully landed the plane on the Hudson River off midtown Manhattan with no loss of life. The incident was described as "the most successful landing in aviation history."
