China's CPI up 2.5% in January

China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, rose 2.5 percent year-on-year in January, the same as the previous month, official data revealed on Friday.
The prices grew by 2.6 percent in cities and 2.2 percent in rural areas. The food prices went up by 3.7 percent, while the non-food prices increased 1.9 percent. The prices of consumer goods went up by 2.0 percent and the prices of services grew by 3.7 percent, according to National Bereau of Statistics website.
China's producer price index (PPI), a main gauge of inflation at the wholesale level, contracted 1.6 percent year on year in January, following a 1.4-percent drop in December.
