On Dec. 9, 1959, Puyi, the last Emperor of China and final ruler of the Qing Dynasty, after being granted a special pardon, leaves Fushun of Liaoning Province for Beijing, a city he had not seen for 35 years. Previously, he had lived in the Soviet Union for five years. In August 1950, Puyi, along with other war criminals of the puppet Manchuria regime, was handed over to China and imprisoned on charge of war crimes for almost 10 years. [File photo] |
