China's Tsinghua University and Johns Hopkins University in the United States signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to offer a dual-degree graduate program in international politics and economics on Jan. 9, 2014 at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

President of Tsinghua University Chen Jining and Johns Hopkins provost Robert Lieberman signed the MOU.

The program is the first dual-degree graduate program between China and the United States in international politics and economy. It will offered jointly by the Department of International Relations of Tsinghua University and the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of Johns Hopkins University.

The program will accept 40 students each year, 20 from China and 20 from the United States. Enrollment for the program will begin in autumn 2014 and the first semester will start in September 2015. All 40 students will study for one year at Tsinghua University. Courses will cover political science, economics and social science. The third to fifth semesters will be spent in Washington D.C, where SAIS is based, with a focus on international economics, language studies, regional studies and specific issues.

The program is set to launch a new model of cooperation between Chinese and U.S. universities and will become a highlight in research on international politics and economics.
